When we have discussions in Language Arts, there are a few general expectations. Please read the following:
1) Listen
* When somebody in your group is talking, you aren't. It is pretty simple. Show respect if you want them to listen to you.
2) It's okay to disagree
* If you disagree with someone in your group, it is okay. There are many different opinions in this world. You don't have to agree with what is said, but you must respect what is said.
3) Talk intelligently
* When discussion a subject, present facts or examples to support your opinion. If you don't have any facts/examples, it is difficult to prove your point.
4) Choose your words carefully.
* Nobody wants to hear someone talk for the sake of talking. Someone who is constantly interrupting and butting in is extremely annoying.
5) Give everyone a chance
* Make sure that everyone in your group has shared his/her opinion. If someone is not comfortable with a specific subject, allow them to pass.
6) Speak loud and clear
* You don't need to scream, but you should talk loud enough to be heard. Also, make sure that you talk slow enough so that everyone can understand you.
7) You are never finished!
* Do not raise your hand and say, "We are finished." Continue having a discussion. If you have finished the required discussion, talk about your day so far, your favorite football team, hobbies, etc.
